Evaluation of OMI NO2 Vertical Columns Using MAX-DOAS Observations over Mexico City

چکیده

Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is a gas pollutant that can be measured from space and several operational products are now available instruments on-board of satellite-based platforms. There still, however, many unknowns about the accuracy these under different viewing surface conditions since ground-based observations generally scarce. This particularly case high-altitude sub-tropical megacities such as Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA). In this study, we use more than five years data four MAX-DOAS distributed within MCMA in order to evaluate DOMINO product Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on board Aura satellite. We compare OMI against each site independently using vertical column densities (VCDs) reported by instrument. The VCDs also compared after smoothing profiles with priori Averaging Kernels satellite product. obtain an overall correlation coefficient (R) 0.6 does not improve significantly applied. Evaluation of a regional air quality forecast model for tropospheric NO2 columns using the OMI/Aura satellite tropospheric NO2 product

Results from a regional air quality forecast model, AIRPACT-3, are compared to OMI tropospheric NO2 integrated column densities for an 18 month period over the Pacific Northwest. AIRPACT column densities are well correlated (r = 0.75) to cloud-free (<35%) retrievals of tropospheric NO2 for monthly averages without wildfires, but are poorly correlated (r = 0.21) with significant model overpredic...

Mobile mini-DOAS measurement of the outflow of NO2 and HCHO from Mexico City

We here present the results from mobile measurements using two ground-based zenith viewing Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) instruments. The measurement was performed in a cross-section of the plume from the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) on 10 March 2006 as part of the MILAGRO field campaign. The two instruments operated in the UV and the visible wavelength region resp...

Four years of ground-based MAX-DOAS observations of HONO and NO2 in the Beijing area

Ground-based Multi-Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) measurements of nitrous acid (HONO) and its precursor NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) as well as aerosols have been performed daily in Beijing city centre (39.98 N, 116.38 E) from July 2008 to April 2009 and at the suburban site of Xianghe (39.75 N, 116.96 E) located∼ 60 km east of Beijing from March 2010 to December 2012. Retrieving tropospheric nitrogen dioxide from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument: effects of aerosols, surface reflectance anisotropy, and vertical profile of nitrogen dioxide

Retrievals of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) are subject to errors in the treatments of aerosols, surface reflectance anisotropy, and vertical profile of NO2. Here we quantify the influences over China via an improved retrieval process. We explicitly account for aerosol optical effects (simulated by nested GEOS-Chem at 0.667 long. × 0.5 lat. and c...
